A full-fledged television station and information complex will soon be set up in Sylhet, said Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League joint general secretary Dr. Hasan Mahmud.
He announced while addressing an exchange meeting with the leaders of Sylhet district and metropolitan Awami League at Sylhet Circuit House here this morning.
The broadcaster said, “I have come to Sylhet to determine the location of a full-fledged television station. This work has been delayed for a year and a half due to the epidemic. However, work on the project will begin soon. If Corona had not chased, we could have started its activities long ago. That’s why we’re far behind. “
Expressing hope that the program would start soon, the minister said that if a full-fledged television station were set up here, like Dhaka and Chittagong, if anyone sang from Sylhet, they would be seen and heard all over the country. At the same time, regional news would be broadcast from Sylhet.
Dr. Hasan said the government had undertaken a project to set up one full-fledged TV station in each of the six divisional cities of the country with the joint funding of the governments of Bangladesh and China.
However, the implementation of this project for land acquisition is being delayed a bit. Noting that there is no problem of land in Sylhet in this regard, he said that at the same time, a modern information complex would be constructed in Sylhet, which will be transformed into a cultural hub of the region.
The information minister said 26 information complexes would be constructed across the country, 10 of which have already been finalized, while the land acquisition process is underway for the remaining 16.
Former Member of Parliament Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury, Acting President of Sylhet District Awami League, Bir Muktijoddha Masuk Uddin Ahmed, President of Sylhet Metropolitan Awami League, General Secretary Professor Zakir Hossain and General Secretary of District Awami League Advocate Nasir Uddin Khan along with top leaders of Sylhet District and Metropolitan Awami League were present at the meeting.
