Today is the birthday of Mahamati Gautam Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. Not only his birthday, he attained Siddhilava and Mahaparinirvana on the same day.
Today is Happy Buddha Purnima. The holiest festival of Buddhists. On the full moon day of Boishakh, the followers of Buddhism bathe in this holy festival, wear clean clothes and worship the Buddha in the temple. In addition to worship, they perform Panchasila, Ashtashila, Sutrapatha, Sutrasravan, Sambhet Prarthana.
In the light of the full moon, Mahamati Gautam illuminated the world under the Bodhi tree and found the path of human liberation. Gains enlightenment. From Kapilabastu to Srabasti, Vaishali, Chunar, Kaushambi, Kanauj, Mathura, Albi (present day Nepal, India, Bhutan, Pakistan, Afghanistan) etc. he preached for 45 years. In the last chapter of his life, he moved from the palace to Kushinagar. He arrived at Paba Nagar near Kushinagar and fell seriously ill.
He slept under a willow tree in the willow forest of Mallas. Then the full moon of Baishakhi has risen in the sky. Illuminated all around. Disciples gathered under the twilight under the eternal sky. He uttered the Mahabani, “Destruction is inevitable as soon as the product is produced. Do your duty intoxicated.” Buddha attained Mahaparinirvana at the age of 60 on the full moon of Baishakhi. Buddha’s motto is ‘Sabbe Satta Sukhita Bhavantu / Let all the creatures of the world be happy’.
The Buddha said, action is everything in the world. Man will reap the fruits according to his deeds. Good deeds bring good results and bad deeds bring bad results. According to karma, people get short life, long life, complex disease, healthy, awkward, happy-sad, high-low, knowledge-stupidity etc. People are subject to action.
Millions of Buddha followers all over the world will observe this day with humble reverence and devotion. The Buddhist community of Bangladesh will celebrate the holy day with due religious dignity and solemnity. President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Jatiya Party-JP Chairman Anwar Hossain Monju MP have given separate messages on the occasion, greeting the Buddhist community of the country. Social organizations like Bangladesh Buddhist Krishi Prachar Sangha, Buddhist Federation, Buddhist Youth Forum, Buddhist Cultural Association etc. will carry out various programs. These include morning ferries, Buddha worship, processions, seminars, lighting of lamps and collective prayers.
