Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan mentioned that the DMP has a role in suppressing the attempt to raise militancy in the country with the connivance of international terrorism. He said that the country is moving forward because the police have gained the ability to maintain peace and order. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said these things at the 48th-anniversary celebration of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) at Rajarbagh Police Lines ground in the capital on Saturday afternoon. DMP Commissioner Khandkar Golam Farooq presided over the function. Around three o’clock in the afternoon, the members of the DMP marched to the Rajarbagh Police Lines ground from the DMP headquarters located next to Shaheed Captain Mansoor Ali Sarni in the capital. Later, DMP’s foundation anniversary was celebrated by cutting a cake there. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said DMP’s counter-terrorism has played a special role in suppressing the rise of militancy in the country. From 2014 to 2016, the people of the country have seen the scene of burning buses and moving cars to kill people. DMP rescued the burnt people and arranged treatment in the burn unit. At the event, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun said, DMP was established in 1976 with 6,000 policemen and 12 police stations to protect law and order in Dhaka. DMP’s role in the capital’s Motijheel Shapla Chatter in 2013 (to evacuate security personnel), later in the fight against terrorism from 2013 to 2016, and the terrorist attack on Holy Artisan Bakery in 2016 will be written in golden letters in the history of Bangladesh. The IGP also said that every member of the DMP will be a pioneer to establish the police as smart police to realize the vision of 2041 announced by the Prime Minister. The success of DMP in eradicating modern and sensational crimes including cybercrimes, drug control, and crimes related to women and child abuse is unimaginable. In his welcome speech, DMP Commissioner Khandkar Golam Farooq said that the capacity of DMP has increased. DMP will take maximum measures to prevent any person or group from creating arson or sabotage in the future, to protect the safety of life and property and the image of the state. Some cabinet members, politicians, diplomats, cultural personalities, and media persons participated in the event. Various levels of officials of DMP along with senior police officers were present at the event.
