Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been conferred with WITSA Eminent Persons Award- 2021 for her outstanding contributions to improving the living standard of people by using information and communication technology.
On behalf of the Premier, State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak received the award yesterday on the third day of World Congress on Information and Technology-2021 (WCIT-2021) in the capital, said a press release.
WITSA Secretary General Dr. James H. Poisant handed over the award.
The World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) is a leading consortium of ICT industry association members from over 80 countries or economies around the world.
It conferred the award on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her dynamic leadership in formulating and implementing Digital Bangladesh Programme as well as her outstanding contributions to improving the living standard of people by using information and communication technology.
WITSA has also given awards in three categories to some institutions of different countries.
Planning Minister MA Mannan, ICT Division Secretary NM Zeaul Alam and BCS President Shahid-Ul-Munir were present on the occasion, among others.
About conferring the award to Sheikh Hasina, it was mentioned that she is running the government for the longest period in the history of Bangladesh.
She took strong stance against militancy, terrorism and fundamentalism side by side with ensuring food security for every citizen of Bangladesh and ensuring people’s right to vote. She is making her all-out strides to ensure the fundamental rights of the people.
During her tenure, Bangladesh has graduated to the status of developing country from the list of Least Developed Country (LDC). Sheikh Hasina’s able leadership accelerated the socio-economic development of the country.
In his reaction, Palak said they become happy and feel proud as the premier was given the award.
He extended his thanks to WITSO secretary general for giving the award to Sheikh Hasina in recognition of her tireless efforts in the last 12 years in building Digital Bangladesh and non-communal and progressive society to build a Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
By getting the award, the Bangalee nation has been encouraged further for the expansion and development of information technology under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he mentioned.
Besides, Bangladesh attained three more awards in different three categories. BGMEA got ‘Sustainable Growth/Circular Economy’ Award, Jatiya Sasthya Batayan-16263 got ‘Innovation e-Health Solution Award’ and Daffodil International University received ‘e-Education and Learning Award’
Institutions and initiatives of Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, Hong Kong, Nepal, Taiwan, Greece, Russia and some other countries were given awards in different categories. On the third day of the ongoing WCIT-2021 in Dhaka, total eight sessions were held on e-commerce, cyber security, WITSA Award and technology business.
