Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Haque said Bengali is rich language. We will not use English to degrade our language.
He said, “We will try to make the Bengali language predominant while using English.” I’m not saying we shouldn’t use English. Because we have to use English to move around the world, we will not use English to degrade our language. This should be our conviction on the day of martyrdom. ‘
Anisul Haque said this while addressing a discussion meeting at the Upazila Parishad auditorium organized by Akhaura Upazila Administration on Shaheed Day and International Mother Language Day on February 21.
The law minister said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the dream nation of Sonar Bangla in 1948, had demanded that Bengali be our state language. While he was in prison in 1952, Salam, Barkat, Jabbar and many others were killed by the police of the then Pakistan government for joining the Bengali language state language movement.
He said that the history of the Bengali nation’s demand movement and realizing the demands had been mixed with blood; no country has given blood for language. We express our respect and gratitude to the language martyrs, heroic freedom fighters, 3 million mothers and sisters who gave their lives for freedom. I tell my appreciation and respect to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
“We have come a long way since ’52,” the minister said. Leader of the people, Sheikh Hasina, has made arrangements to honour and recognize February 21 as Mother Language Day worldwide. Now Ekushey February is recognized all over the world as Mother Language Day.
Anisul Haque said, “People’s Leader Sheikh Hasina has introduced Bangladesh as a role model for development all over the world. We respect her and support her in all her development projects so that we can move forward.”
