Russian military strike ‘genocide’: Ukraine

Ukraine‘s parliament on Thursday approved a resolution recognizing Russian military action in the country as “genocide.” News from AFP.

“These attacks by the Russian armed forces are not just a crime of aggression. They are an attempt to systematically destroy the people of Ukraine, their identity, their self-determination, and their independent development,” the resolution supported by a majority of lawmakers in parliament.

A statement from Russia’s foreign ministry said that Russia had begun its aggression in Ukraine on February 24.

The proposal, approved by Ukraine’s parliament to recognize Russia’s war as genocide, will be sent to foreign governments, parliaments and the United Nations.

The move comes after US President George W. Bush said that Russia’s attack on the Ukrainian people was a genocide. The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, agreed with Biden.
