35 km traffic jam on Bangabandhu Setu highway

A 35 km long area of Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway has caused traffic jam. Accidents and vehicle breakdowns on the bridge have been caused by stoppage of toll collection, excess traffic and reckless driving by drivers, the highway police said.

On Wednesday (June 28) there was a traffic jam from the eastern side of Bangabandhu Bridge to Pakulla in Mirzapur Upazila of Tangail from 4 am. Due to this, thousands of domestic people are in trouble.

According to the police, a collision and a pickup van broke down on the Bangabandhu Bridge on Wednesday morning. It takes more than an hour to move the pickup van. The bridge authority stopped toll collection from 4:15 am to 4:53 am. Toll collection was stopped several times before. Due to these reasons, traffic jams are created.

Elenga Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahid Hasan told BanglaNews that the traffic jam started due to the accident on the bridge and on the highway. We are performing duty on the road. Car movement has started at slow speed. Hope the situation will be normal soon.
