Teesta water above the limit at Nilphamari

The water of the Teesta river has crossed the border due to the hilly slope coming down from the upstream.

At 6 am on Wednesday (July 5), Dalia Point of the Teesta Barrage recorded a water flow of 52.18 cm, which is 3.3 cm above the tidal limit.

52.15 cm from the normal flow of Teesta river. Water Development Board (PUBO) authorities have opened 44 sluices of Teesta Barrage to control water flow.

Officials of Water Development Board Dalia Division said that since the beginning of June, the water flow of Teesta has been decreasing. On June 19, the waters of the Teesta crossed the threshold. After a day, the water started to decrease further. Later it was normal but today the water rose again.

As a result, some chars in the lower part of Teesta river in Dimla and Jaldhaka upazilas have been flooded. However, as the water flow is not permanent, there is no possibility of damage.

Dimla Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Belayet Hossain said, according to the information of the Water Development Board, the water level in the upstream of the Teesta River was already predicted to exceed the limit. For this, the local people have been warned by the public representative and the village police.

Asfauddaula Prince, executive engineer of the Water Development Board Dalia Division, said that the water started to rise from this morning. At 6 am, it crossed the boundary and is flowing with 52.18 cm. By noon the water will recede.

This official said, with the help of the local administration, the people on the banks of the river have been made aware. If there is any problem anywhere, the Water Development Board is ready to deal with it.
