Dengue death record in the first 7 days of July

The number of patients and deaths due to Aedes mosquito-borne disease dengue fever is increasing every day in the country. In the first seven days of July, dengue cases and deaths exceeded the record.

According to a review of the dengue data of the Department of Health, from January 1, 2022 to December 31, the highest total of 281 people died of dengue in the history of the country and 62 thousand 382 people were admitted to the hospital.

From January 1 to June 30 last year, the total number of patients admitted to hospital due to dengue was 1 thousand 89 and one person died. From January 1 to June 30 of this year, a total of seven thousand 978 people were admitted to the hospital due to dengue and 47 people died.

On the first day of July 2022, 22 people were admitted to the hospital due to dengue, 2 July 49 people, 3 July 42 people, 4 July 36 people, 5 July 46 people, 6 July 32 people, 7 July 31 people. In other words, in the first week of July last year, a total of 258 people were admitted to the hospital due to dengue, and there were no deaths.

On the first day of July this year, 270 people were admitted to the hospital due to dengue, and three people died. On July 2, 509 people were hospitalized, two died. On July 3, 436 people were admitted to the hospital, four people died. On July 4, 678 people were hospitalized, five died. On July 5, 584 people were admitted to the hospital, one person died.On July 6, 661 were hospitalized, two died, and on July 7, 182 were hospitalized, one died. That is, in the first week of July, the total number of dengue cases is 3 thousand 320 people, 18 deaths.

On July 7 (Friday) of this year, a total of 2,165 dengue patients are admitted to hospitals across the country. From January 1 to July 7, 2023, a total of 11 thousand 298 dengue patients were admitted to various hospitals in the country and 65 people died.

An analysis of dengue data clearly shows that the number of cases and deaths have increased manifold compared to last year. Public health experts and entomologists fear dengue will surpass all previous records this year without proper effective and inclusive dengue control initiatives.

Government’s Pathology, Disease Control and Research Institute (IEDCR) advisor and former chief scientific officer of the institute. Mushtaq Hossain told BanglaNews in this regard that the number of patients who are currently suffering from dengue and are being admitted to the hospital, I am afraid that this number will increase in the coming days. In this case, if the number of patients increases, the number of deaths will also increase.

He said that various houses, offices and courts were closed due to the Eid holiday. Due to rainfall, rainwater has accumulated in various places of these offices, courts and houses. Aedes mosquitoes are continuously spreading in these places. This will soon create favorable conditions for dengue virus to spread. That is why dengue is feared to increase after Eid.

On dengue prevention, this entomologist also said that at the moment we need to do dengue hot spot management. Finding out the address of dengue patients, fogging around the person’s house should kill the flying mosquitoes. Because these flying mosquitoes are the infected mosquitoes at the moment, as long as these mosquitoes are alive, they will spread dengue at a geometric rate.
