The date of repatriation of Rohingyas under the pilot project has not been finalized yet. Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said that Bangladesh government is vacillating on Rohingya repatriation.
He said this while facing the journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (August 2).
When asked about the discussion on the progress of repatriation of Rohingyas during the visit of China’s Special Envoy for Asian Affairs Deng Sijun to Dhaka, the Foreign Minister said that he (China’s Special Envoy) is trying to ensure that the Rohingyas return to their homeland. China is helping a lot in this regard. But the sad thing is that many people do not want the Rohingyas to go back. In particular, many foreign governments advised us that the Rohingyas should not go at this time.
Dr. Momen said, their (foreign government) statement is that they will die if they go there. Will kill them. Because there is a military government. They think that if democracy is not restored there then it is not right to send them there. They advocate this. But our priority is that the Rohingyas will go to their country. Rohingya also want to go to their country.
The foreign minister also said that Myanmar is willing to accept them. Myanmar says they will ensure safety and security when they go. But the rest of our coaches say—no; How do you trust the military government? We are on the fence about this.
In response to the question, where is the crisis to send the Rohingya? Momen said there are many international NGOs who are also involved. They work there. UNHCR has Those who work there do not want them to go there. At the moment there is a military government. Many say good things, but zero in the name of the cause.
In response to the question that there is no progress, the foreign minister said that there has been a sufficient slow down in a few days. I am always optimistic. Rohingyas will go to their own country and build a beautiful future.
If you want to know if there was any message about the national election of Bangladesh during the visit of China’s special envoy to Dhaka. Momen says no. He only came to talk about Rohingya. Did not bring any other matter.
