Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has returned to the country after her visit to South Africa to attend the 15th BRICS Summit.
He arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:30 am local time on Sunday (August 27).
Earlier, the Prime Minister departed from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa on an Emirates Airlines flight. He arrived in Dhaka after a brief stopover at the Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates.
Prime Minister’s younger sister Sheikh Rehana and only daughter Saima Wazed are with him at Esfar.
Earlier, the Prime Minister arrived in Johannesburg on August 22 night to attend the 15th BRICS Summit.
Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa joined the 15th historic BRICS summit hosted by South Africa.
This is the first in-person BRICS summit since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent global restrictions.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the conference.
On August 23, the Prime Minister addressed the ‘Bangladesh Trade and Business Summit’ organized by Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) as the chief guest.
Later, he attended the ‘Bangladesh Ambassador Conference’ organized with the ambassadors of Bangladesh posted in African countries.
In the afternoon, he held a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at Hotel Hilton Sandton.
In the evening, the Prime Minister attended a cultural program and a ‘State Banquet’ hosted by the current BRICS Chairman and the President of South Africa.
On August 24, he spoke on behalf of Bangladesh as a member of the ‘New Development Bank of BRICS’-Friends of BRICS Leaders’ Dialogue (BRICS-Africa Outreach and BRICS Plus Dialogue) consisting of representatives of 70 countries.
On the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, Sheikh Hasina and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Mozambique President Felipe Jacinto Nyusi, Tanzanian President Dr. A bilateral meeting was held between Saima Sulluhu and President of Iran Ibrahim Raisi.
A meeting was also held between Bangladesh Prime Minister and New Development Bank President Dilma Bana Rousseff at the same place.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said that the dignitaries in the meeting praised the significant development of Bangladesh under the wise leadership of Sheikh Hasina.
In the evening he met Bangladeshi expatriates living in South Africa.
The Prime Minister attended the 15th BRICS Summit held on August 22-24 at the invitation of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
