Half of India’s innings could not be completed before the rain interrupted the game. The match was halted due to heavy rain even before it could resume after a few stoppages. However, supporters have limited opportunities to be disappointed as the India-Pakistan mega-clash is scheduled to be resumed on the reserve day.
In the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup, today India and Pakistan faced each other at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. India lost the toss and had to bat first. Initially, Pakistan’s pace bowlers, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah, bowled with good speed to challenge India’s openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill.
However, Shubman Gill gradually started to open up and play aggressively, especially taking on Shahin Shah Afridi. He scored fifty off 37 balls with a flurry of boundaries and sixes, showing his aggressive batting style. Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, took his time to settle in. In the 13th over, he signaled his intentions by hitting two sixes and a four off Shadab Khan. In the very next over, Rohit scored a six off a full toss, completing his 50 in ODIs in style.
However, after that, Rohit Sharma lost his wicket. He attempted to hit a six off Faheem Ashraf but was caught in the deep by Salman, ending his innings at 56 runs off 52 balls. Shubman Gill, after scoring a brilliant fifty, couldn’t sustain his momentum. He fell victim to Faheem Ashraf after scoring 58 runs off 52 balls.
After the departure of the openers, Lokesh Rahul and Virat Kohli took charge. But before they could form a partnership, rain interrupted the game. Rain played spoilsport several times, but the match could not be resumed. Eventually, the entire ground was covered, and the umpires announced the suspension of play around 9 PM local time.
