Export of agricultural products doubled in five years

Out of this, there are only four products in a billion households. One of these is agricultural products. Exports of agricultural products have doubled in the last five years.

Such information has been highlighted in the report of the Export Development Bureau.

It can be seen that in the financial year 2017-18, the export of agricultural products was 673.70 million dollars. 1.163 million in FY 2021-22, increasing in four years. In the next financial year 2022-23, the exports increased again in the first two months of the current financial year, July-August, although it decreased slightly. August-July exports were 174 million dollars. Exports exceeded strategic targets in two months.

Exporters say agricultural exports will once again cross the billion dollar mark this year. Agro-processing industry is a promising industry, which will contribute greatly in future in terms of exports. But the cost of production increased last year due to the impact of global inflation. We could not compete with neighboring countries. The customers were gone. Due to which exports have decreased.

Other products touching the billion dollar mark are home textiles, leather and leather products and jute and jute products. Of these, agricultural products have grown at a steady rate and have doubled in the last five years. Almost all value is added locally.

A large part of the exports of ready-made garments, home textiles, leather products go to import of raw materials. In this case, agricultural products are a potential export product.

According to the Export Development Bureau, Bangladesh’s agriculture and agricultural products are exported to around 130 countries around the world. Agricultural products of Bangladesh are exported to India, Middle Eastern countries, various European countries, several African countries, USA, Canada, Malaysia and Japan.
