Military blogger Yegor Guzenko was the first to report Popov’s death.
On September 10th, a voice message was posted on his own Telegram channel confirming this news.
Recently, Popov had taken responsibility for the war against Ukraine. Guzenko stated that he was a good man and even mentioned him as a hero. Guzenko further expressed his condolences, saying, ‘I am sorry for him. Three more people have also been killed. I am sorry for them too.’
According to media reports, Popov was 38 years old at the time of his death. He was a leader and a major. It was reported in 2001 that Popov had studied at the General Air Force Academy.
