“In the Ukrainian War, Russian Commander Popov was killed.”

“In Ukraine, the Russian Airborne Forces’ Special Unit Commander Vasili Popov has been killed.

On September 10th, it was reported by the American Think Tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW) that he had been killed. However, there has been no statement from Russia regarding this matter. This news comes from Newsweek.

According to reports from Russian military bloggers’ Telegram channels and Russian independent media outlets, Vasili Popov, the commander of the 247th Guards Air Assault Regiment, was killed at an undisclosed location in the Zaporizhia-Donetsk region of Ukraine.

Military blogger Yegor Guzenko was the first to report Popov’s death.

On September 10th, a voice message was posted on his own Telegram channel confirming this news.

Recently, Popov had taken responsibility for the war against Ukraine. Guzenko stated that he was a good man and even mentioned him as a hero. Guzenko further expressed his condolences, saying, ‘I am sorry for him. Three more people have also been killed. I am sorry for them too.’

According to media reports, Popov was 38 years old at the time of his death. He was a leader and a major. It was reported in 2001 that Popov had studied at the General Air Force Academy.

ISW stated that Vasili Popov likely took over as the commander of the 247th Regiment in August or September, succeeding Pyotr Popov.”
