It seems that the King of Goals, Cristiano Ronaldo, did not make any self-centered requests! This statement was made on an Iranian TV channel, and it’s being discussed by commentators and social media users. Regardless of whether it’s true or not, the videos circulating on social media tell the real story!
Cristiano Ronaldo went to Iran to play in an AFC Champions League match for Al Nassr. When their yellow-clad team was on the way to the stadium, there was a crowd all around. Security forces had to use traditional methods to disperse the crowd. However, it’s not just about that; the players of Al Nassr were staying in a hotel located on a hill, and Iranian football fans climbed mountains to get a glimpse of them! Whom were they trying to see? It was Cristiano Ronaldo!
Iran doesn’t see such big football stars on its grounds every day. Ronaldo did not score any goals in the match held at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium. However, he did achieve victory in the AFC Champions League. He has faced defeat only once in his career in 1,000 professional matches (draws and wins combined). While he has won 776 matches with his team and drawn in 224, he has never lost when playing against his own team (draws and wins combined).
Ronaldo joined Al Nassr as the team’s captain for the match. The match took place at Azadi Stadium, which provided the team with an advantage. In 2021, Persepolis supporters were banned from attending one of their matches by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Due to this reason, the club’s supporters could not sit in the stands and support Persepolis during the match. The match was played without spectators, and the absence of passionate supporters did not help Persepolis. They lost 2-0 to Al Nassr, giving the Saudi Arabian club a significant victory.
Persepolis right-back Danial Esmaeilifar scored an own goal in the match, and Al Nassr’s defender Mohammed Kassem added the second goal. Ronaldo had opportunities to score two goals in the first half but couldn’t find the back of the net. After a foul, he received a red card in the 77th minute. This was Ronaldo’s first red card in Iran since he started playing there. Despite the political tensions between the two countries, the clubs from both countries had to meet on a neutral venue. After the victory, Ronaldo took to his official Twitter account and wrote, “Today’s (yesterday’s) victory was amazing. Special thanks to the supporters and to all the people of Iran who made our visit worthwhile. Truly a heartwarming experience.
