Iran’s President, Ibrahim Raisi, has criticized Western countries for disrespecting the Holy Quran and has condemned such actions as part of their efforts to preserve their cultural independence. He made these remarks during a speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday.
Muslim leaders expressed their disapproval of disrespect towards the Holy Quran at the recent United Nations General Assembly. This news was reported by Al-Arabiya.
Recently, there have been several incidents of desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden. Despite condemnation from the Muslim world, it is not possible for countries to ban such incidents under the banner of freedom of expression according to their laws.
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has created pressure on Sweden for repeatedly desecrating the Holy Quran, said at the United Nations General Assembly that Western countries are encouraging racism, including Islamophobia.
He stated, “Unfortunately, populist politicians in many countries are encouraging such dangerous tendencies.”
Erdogan also said, “The mentality that attacks the Holy Quran with disdain for cultural diversity in Western countries cannot shed light on its own future.”
At the same time, Raisi criticized France for its controversial ban on Muslim girls wearing the hijab in schools.
Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has also spoken on the matter, stating that it is not appropriate to see interacting with others’ religious sanctities as a form of freedom of expression but rather as an infringement on the sanctity of others.
