A magnitude 4.8 earthquake has been reported in the commercial city of Yangon and its surrounding areas in Myanmar. The quake was felt in a city with a population of nearly 8 million people and lasted for at least one minute.
As of now, there have been no reports of casualties or significant damage. This information was reported by AFP.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred at 8:55 PM local time on Saturday. Its epicenter was located approximately 39 kilometers north of Yangon and about 10 kilometers deep in the Earth’s crust.
This earthquake comes after a series of earthquakes struck Myanmar in recent months. In May of the current year, a magnitude 4.2 earthquake hit the region. On May 22 of the same month, a magnitude 4.5 earthquake was also reported.
Prior to these events, in the late February of the current year, Myanmar experienced two earthquakes in the Ayeyarwady and Rakhine states. These earthquakes were also felt in the Cox’s Bazar area of Bangladesh.
