After shooting and killing a youth named Krishnaang, a murder case has been filed against the police. In protest, 100 officers are refusing to join duty armed.
In London, following the decision of the police officers, the military has been put on standby. 100 police officers have stated that they won’t participate in duty with weapons since allegations of murder have been made against their colleagues.
The United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defense has stated that they will provide support to the police in specific tasks. They will primarily assist in counter-terrorism operations. There are special armed police officers in London who have refused to join this duty.
Not all police officers in the United Kingdom carry weapons. Those who do are specially trained police officers. Media reports suggest that around 100 police officers have refused to participate in this armed duty.
Police officers will face trial In September 2022, a 24-year-old youth named Krishnaang was killed by police gunfire. The name of the police officer who fired the shot leading to his death has not been disclosed. He is referred to as ANX 121.
Krishnaang was driving a car in South London when he was shot by the police. He died from a single gunshot.
Krishnaang was not in possession of any weapons. Later, allegations arose that this was a racially motivated incident.
Subsequently, a murder case was filed against the police officer. Krishnaang’s family welcomed him. The officer has been granted bail under certain conditions. He will face trial next year.
Support from the Home Secretary After this decision by the police officers, Home Secretary Braverman has stated, “Police officers must make decisions in seconds like a fraction of a second.”
Police sources have revealed that initially, several officers refused to participate in armed duty. Then, this number has increased.
Police officers are concerned about how this decision will affect them and their families. They have taken this decision in a very challenging situation. They are emotionally distressed by the situation created by this decision.
The military’s authority to arrest is absent The military has been called in to perform some tasks for the police now. However, they will not have the authority to arrest anyone. Since 2020, eight deaths, including the case of Krishnaang, have occurred due to police gunfire. Typically, when someone wields a knife or an incendiary device, the police open fire.
So, allegations of murder against the police are very rare in the United Kingdom. In 2021, a professional football player was sentenced to six years in prison for using a constable’s firearm after heated arguments and striking the footballer’s head with a baton.
However, in recent times, allegations of abduction, assault, and murder have been raised against the London police. Source: Dutch Media.
