Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has referred to the rocket attacks by the Palestinian organization Hamas in the Israeli-controlled territory as a ‘terrorist attack’. He stated, “In this difficult time, we (India) stand by Israel.”
On Saturday, Modi conveyed this message through a tweet. He wrote, “I have deeply mourned upon hearing the news of the terrifying terrorist attack in Israel. I pray for the victims and their families. At this difficult time, we express solidarity with Israel and stand by their side.”
Leaders from around the world, including French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, have condemned the attack by Hamas in Israel, referring to it as a ‘terrorist act’.
Hamas launched a series of rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip into Israel on Saturday morning. In response, Israel initiated airstrikes on Gaza.
The death toll in Israel due to Hamas’ attacks has risen to 250. At least 1,500 people have been injured, and among them, 232 Palestinians have lost their lives in the Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip. At least 790 have been injured.
Israel faced an unexpected attack from Hamas. The Israeli Ministry of Defense has stated that clashes with Palestinian armed groups are ongoing in 22 areas bordering Gaza.
In a statement to address the Israeli population, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated, “We are in the midst of a war. We will emerge victorious in this war.”
Given the overall situation, the Israeli authorities declared a 48-hour state of emergency across the country, announcing the closure of all schools and kindergartens on Sunday.
In his address to the citizens, Netanyahu said, “What happened today has never happened in Israel before. But I want to assure you that such incidents will never happen again. We will track down Hamas members wherever they hide and eliminate them.”
On the other hand, Hamas’ deputy head, Saleh al-Arouri, declared a comprehensive state of war against Israel. Hamas is now preparing for the worst situation.
