“Surprised by Mahmudullah’s omission” – Wasim Zafar

In the first match, Bangladesh suffered a big defeat against Afghanistan, and in the second match, they faced another significant loss, this time against England. They also collapsed while chasing a big score. England, in response to Afghanistan’s 364, scored 227 runs, losing 9 wickets. This defeat was a massive setback, with a margin of 137 runs.

England, despite being a strong team, is now facing questions about such a significant defeat. Cricket analyst Wasim Jaffer, in a discussion on ESPN Cricinfo, expressed his surprise at the decision to leave Mahmudullah out of the team. Mahmudullah did not get a chance to bat in the first match against Afghanistan, but in the England match, he was left out of the team in favor of spinner Mehidy Hasan. This decision surprised Jaffer, especially given that most of England’s batsmen are right-handed, and the pitches are relatively small. Mahmudullah, a former opener for Bangladesh, could have been useful in this situation.

In the first match, Mehedi Miraz batted at number three and scored fifty runs. Najmul Hossain played at number four and also scored a half-century. However, in the match against England, Najmul was dismissed early, and Miraz came to bat at number five. Both of them failed to make an impact. The constant changes in the batting order are a concern for the Bangladesh team, and Wasim Jaffer believes they need to find a solution to this problem.

He said, “I don’t know why Mehedi, who batted at number three in the previous match, is now batting at number five. I don’t know if that was the right decision. Even though Najmul was batting, the decision to make Mehedi bat at number five has baffled them. The opening pair is also a concern for Bangladesh. This has been a persistent issue for a long time, and they need to find a solution to this problem.”

So, the significant defeat against England has raised questions about Bangladesh’s batting order and team selection decisions.
