In 2010, Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena granted permission to proceed with the case against author Arundhati Roy and Kashmir University professor Sheikh Shawkat Hossain based on an FIR filed against them. In the same year, there were allegations of provocative speeches made in a gathering in Delhi against the accused.
Booker Prize-winning author Arundhati Roy and an organization of Kashmiri Pandits called “Roots in Kashmir” were accused by Sushil Pandit of advocating for the separation of Kashmir from India in an event titled “Azadi: The Only Way.” The case was filed under sections 153A, 153B, and 505 of the Indian Penal Code. What did the accused say exactly? The allegations stated that their speeches were incendiary.
Two more accused in this case were separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani from Kashmir and Professor Syed Abdul Rahman Geelani from Delhi University. They had previously been acquitted by the Supreme Court in the Parliament attack case. However, it has been reported that they passed away before the conclusion of this case.
