When Israel indiscriminately bombs Gaza, preparing for ground attacks, Egypt strengthens its military presence at the Rafah border with Gaza. The only entry point for Gazans into Egypt is through the Rafah Crossing. Israel is seeking to forcibly displace thousands of Palestinian refugees to the Sinai desert, violating international law, according to reports. This action could further destabilize Egypt’s fragile economy. The Guardian has made similar comments.
Palestinians and several Arab countries fear that once in Sinai, these Palestinians may never be allowed to return home.
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi of Egypt has emphasized that Gazans must firmly remain in “their homes and their land.”
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also agrees with Egypt on this matter.
He stated, “I am once again saying, we are urging Israel to abide by international law. We are against the displacement of Palestinians. We will never approve a policy of expelling them to Egypt.”
Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, in a meeting with his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock, also strongly stated that they will not accept foreign citizens stranded in Gaza, even American citizens, through the Rafah Gate if Israel does not allow humanitarian aid into Gaza.
It has been reported that Sisi has a few trump cards up his sleeve, according to The Guardian.
