Wasim Akram wonders about not giving fitness test to Pakistan players

After a significant defeat against India, the Pakistan cricket team’s captain, Babar Azam, has drawn criticism from their team director, Mickey Arthur, regarding the team’s performance and fitness. This time, the criticism revolves around the lack of fitness tests for Pakistani players.

In an interview on a Pakistani TV channel, fast bowler Wahab Riaz expressed his surprise and disappointment, saying, “I am astonished by the lack of fitness tests for our (Pakistan) players. There are no fitness tests happening now. When Misbah-ul-Haq was the coach and selector, we used to undergo Yo-Yo tests and various other fitness tests.”

Wahab Riaz added, “A professional cricketer should undergo fitness tests at least once a month. If you don’t do this (fitness test), you will face the consequences, like we did against India.”

He further emphasized the importance of fitness tests for cricketers and said, “It’s necessary for a professional cricketer to undergo fitness tests at least once a month. If you don’t do this (fitness test), you will have to face the consequences, especially when you are up against a team like India.”

Wahab Riaz also pointed out the uncertainty within Pakistan cricket, stating, “In the last three years, PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) has had three different chairmen. The team management is suffering from a lack of certainty. They don’t know whether they will continue in the next series or not. Scoring 154 to 191 runs in two weeks is really disappointing.”
