A New Dream at Bankkhali Bridge, the Door of Economy is Opening

The long-awaited dream of Cox’s Bazar Municipality is coming to fruition. The newly constructed bridge, ‘Bak Khali Bridge,’ over the river, will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday (November 11). Following the inauguration, the bridge will be open for public use, connecting people on both sides of the river. The areas around the bridge are envisioning new economic opportunities and potential for tourism.

Through an official ceremony on Saturday, the newly constructed bridge over the Bak Khali River will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The bridge will be open for public use after the inauguration, connecting people on both sides. Furthermore, it is believed that the inauguration of the bridge will mark the beginning of a new phase, including the proposed construction of a regional highway along with the Khurushkul Shelter Project.

Visiting the Bak Khali area in Cox’s Bazar reveals that the entire bridge has been adorned with colors. The final touches of coloring are currently underway. Simultaneously, workers are busy installing lights and ensuring cleanliness and sanitation on both sides of the bridge. The newly constructed road on both ends of the bridge is also undergoing final preparations.

Workers engaged in the LED project state that the ‘Cox’s Bazar-Khurushkul connection bridge is being constructed within the development project of Cox’s Bazar Airport. The bridge, spanning the Bak Khali River, is part of the larger Cox’s Bazar Airport Development Project. The construction cost of this 596-meter bridge over the Bak Khali River is approximately Tk 259 crore. The official work on the bridge started on September 1, 2019. Although the bridge’s construction was expected to be completed by August 21, 2021, various challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, have delayed its completion until October 2023.
