In the popular tourist area of Dal Lake in Srinagar, Indian-administered Kashmir, three Bangladeshi tourists have died in a fire incident on a houseboat. The incident occurred yesterday morning.
Kashmir Police reported that a houseboat anchored on Dal Lake caught fire early yesterday morning. Subsequently, the fire spread to several other nearby houseboats.
A police officer stated, “In the incident of the fire early Saturday morning, five houseboats have been engulfed in flames. Among them, three Bangladeshi tourists on one of the houseboats have lost their lives, and seven others have been injured.”
Local authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident of the houseboat fire. Officials in Kashmir have indicated that the initial investigation suggests a probable electrical malfunction as the source of the fire.
According to government records, in the year 2022, Jammu and Kashmir attracted more than 6.2 million tourists.
