In recent times, Shakib Al Hasan’s name has been frequently in the news not just in sports but in politics as well. He has submitted nomination forms for candidacy in three constituencies for the upcoming national parliamentary elections. However, due to a hand injury sustained during the World Cup match against Sri Lanka on November 6th, Shakib’s return to the field is uncertain. He was initially expected to recover within approximately six weeks, making him unavailable for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand. Even though he might not play in the three-match ODI series, if he recovers well, there’s a chance he could feature in the three-match T20 series.
The latest status of Shakib’s injured finger will be clearer after another X-ray scheduled for November 28th. The medical team at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) mentioned the need to reassess the finger’s condition before determining his return to play.
Shakib’s future plans, particularly regarding the World Cup absence due to injury, haven’t been explicitly disclosed to the board yet. However, if he misses the New Zealand tour due to injury, there’s a possibility he might return for the home series against Sri Lanka in March.
The shoulder injury prevents experienced Mahmudullah Riyad from joining the New Zealand tour, and Taskin Ahmed has been advised rest after participating in the two series. Discussions have already begun regarding Taskin’s potential return for the New Zealand tour next month, comprising three ODIs and three T20Is.
Bangladesh’s team has already arrived in Sylhet to play the first Test against New Zealand. The New Zealand team arrived in Sylhet the night before.
