Sylhet: Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) has expressed interest in collaborating with JICA and UNDP on issues related to natural disasters and drainage improvement. Mayor Ariful Haque Choudhury held separate discussions with representatives of both teams at the Nagar Bhaban in Sylhet on Saturday (November 25).
On the same day, in the afternoon, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) held a discussion on flood management and urban drainage with representatives from Sylhet. The meeting addressed various issues related to flood management and drainage problems in Sylhet. At this time, there was an expressed interest from JICA to work on the development of flood management and drainage in Sylhet.
During the meeting, Mayor Mo. Ariful Haque Choudhury of SCC welcomed their interest and expressed SCC’s willingness to work with JICA. Present at the meeting were Isiguchi Tomomodi, Chief Representative of JICA Bangladesh, Reporter Oshi, Cameraman Thomoshi, Local Councillor Ekram Moinuddin, and JICA Program Officer Anisuzzaman Choudhury.
Prior to this, when the JICA delegation arrived at Sylhet City Corporation, Mayor Mo. Ariful Haque Choudhury welcomed them with flowers and presented them with traditional Sylheti tea. Additionally, on the same day at 9 am, SCC separately held a mutual discussion with a UNDP delegation in the conference room.
Present at the meeting were Isikul Haque, Additional Secretary of the Department of Disaster Management, Joint Secretary Abhendra Shekhar Roy, JICA’s former Joint Secretary Abhendra Shekhar Roy, Executive Officer Fahima Yasmin, Chief Engineer Nur Azizur Rahman, Chief Revenue Officer Matiur Rahman Khan, Chief Property Officer Bishwajit Dev, and all the directors, executive engineers, and assistant engineers.
On the other hand, in cooperation with the Chinese and Bangladeshi governments, 85 cleanliness workers in Sylhet have been provided with various sanitation equipment.
Mayor Mo. Ariful Haque Choudhury personally handed over these sanitation equipment to the workers in the morning. It has been informed that more sanitation workers will be provided with various sanitation equipment in stages.
