Irish author Paul Lynch has won this year’s Booker Prize for the novel ‘Prophet Song.’ Lynch has emerged victorious over five competitors listed in the shortlist at the award ceremony held in London on November 26.
According to a report by BBC, Irish author Paul Lynch’s name was announced as the winner of the Booker Prize for his novel ‘Prophet Sow’ at the award ceremony held in London on November 26.
The novel, based on imagined atrocities perpetrated on Ireland, was not very optimistic about the oppression that came over Ireland. Lynch said, “It was not easy to write this book; my rational mind thought I was destroying my career with this novel. Despite that, I had to write this novel. In such situations, we have no alternative.”
The novel envisions Ireland under the rule of a new fascist nationalist government. In this tale of turbulent times, the leaders of the Union and the unseen enemies of the ruling regime become mysteriously visible. This leads to domestic warfare and the economic downfall of the country.
This is Lynch’s fifth book. He has been working on finishing this novel for four years. Lynch mentioned that he started writing it just before the birth of his son, and by the time he finished, his son had learned to ride a bicycle. He said he would spend the £50,000 prize money to repay a loan.
