The light to moderate rainfall that began last Wednesday night due to the impact of Cyclone Migraine bid farewell by Friday afternoon. The clouds that were in the sky have also cleared. Following the departure of the rain, the majority of the country has started experiencing a decrease in temperature. This trend of temperature reduction is expected to continue into tomorrow, Saturday. This will lead to a heightened sense of winter.
According to the Meteorological Department’s forecast, on Saturday night, the temperature may drop by an additional 1 to 3 degrees Celsius. The upcoming Sunday morning is likely to see a light to moderate fog in various parts of the country. The daytime temperature may also decrease slightly.
Abul Kalam Malik, a meteorologist at the Meteorological Department, mentioned over the phone to Prothom Alo, “From this morning until around 11 am, there was continuous light rainfall. After that, the clouds started to disperse. Along with that, the temperature has slightly decreased. In the coming days, the temperature may decrease further, enhancing the feeling of winter.”
Between December 13 and 15, several areas in Rajshahi, Naogaon, Pabna, and Panchagarh may experience temperatures ranging from 10 to 12 degrees Celsius, as per the meteorologist. He stated that 24 degrees Celsius is considered a comfortable temperature. If the temperature is below this level, the sensation of winter is felt. However, age and physical structure play a role in reducing the perception of winter.
According to the information from the Meteorological Department, yesterday, the lowest temperature recorded in the country was 17.2 degrees Celsius in Dinajpur. In Dhaka, the minimum temperature was 19.5 degrees Celsius. In most parts of the country, the minimum temperature was below 20 degrees Celsius.
The sensation of winter is more pronounced in rural areas compared to urban areas. This is because the walls of urban buildings, made of brick and mortar, retain heat during the day, keeping the interior warm. When the walls cool down in the early morning, a feeling of coldness is experienced. Although the impact of Cyclone Migraine has led to a reduction in temperature due to rain, Dhaka is now experiencing a somewhat colder sensation.
As per the information from the Meteorological Department, during the last 24 hours until yesterday evening, the highest amount of rainfall occurred in Bandarban, recording 29 millimeters. At the same time, Dhaka recorded the highest rainfall in the capital, which was 13 millimeters. Additionally, yesterday, the highest recorded temperature was 29.8 degrees Celsius in Saidpur, while the highest temperature in Dhaka was 23.5 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department had issued a forecast on November 29 that a low-pressure area had formed in the South Andaman Sea. Gradually intensifying, it transformed into a cyclone named Migraine by December 2. Subsequently, it turned into a deep depression on December 2 and moved towards the southern Bay of Bengal and the adjacent areas. With the formation of the cyclone, the sensation of winter has increased in Dhaka due to the impact of rainfall.
