Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas said that an initiative has been taken to construct Nazrul Sarovar on the model of Rabindra Sarovar in Dhanmondi Lake.
He gave this information while talking to the media on Wednesday (February 14) afternoon while participating in the special cleaning campaign-2024 in Dhanmondi Lake.
Mayor Tapas said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has turned this Dhanmondi lake into an aesthetic lake after forming the government in 1996. With extensive master planning, he has developed its infrastructure and made it a beautiful environment. We are working step by step to make Dhanmondi Lake more beautiful, aesthetic and attractive. Now we have taken some more initiatives from Dhaka South City Corporation for renovation.
He said, we have taken the initiative to build Nazrul Sarovar on the model of Barindra Sarovar in the new area that we cleared from Dhanmondi 32 to Sampan. Going to start working on it soon. The Prime Minister has already seen the design of Nazrul Sarovar. We expect Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to decorate the seat of the chief guest at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Nazrul Sarobar.
Giving a set of instructions to ensure a clean environment in Dhanmondi Lake, the Mayor of Dhaka South said, “We want to give specific instructions that no vagabond can live here.” All the food shops here have to close their kitchens by 9:30 pm. No food orders can be taken and served after 9:30. Outdoor restaurants, such as Pansi and Sampan, have to close their kitchens by 10:30 pm.And one day in a week, Wednesday, the entire area of Dhanmondi lake was declared closed. No business activities, buying and selling will take place here on Wednesday. On Wednesday we will keep the Dhanmondi Lake clean and tip-top. So that from Thursday not only Dhaka, but those who come here from all over Bangladesh, they can enjoy the aesthetic, beautiful and green.
In response to a question from journalists about air pollution, Mayor Tapas said, according to the information of the authorities who are responsible for determining the cause of air pollution, fossil fuels are responsible for 80 percent of Dhaka city’s air pollution. The fossil fuels we use like petrol, octane, diesel are among the lowest in global standards. That is why the substances released into our air are unhealthy and dangerous. That is why we are sometimes at the worst level of air pollution.
