In the eyes of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, it’s not the size of the country that holds the key, but rather the strength of its policies that uplifts the political and socio-economic liberation of humanity on the global stage. She expressed this during a press conference held on Friday (February 23) at the Ganabhaban after her trip to Germany.
The press conference, moderated by the Prime Minister’s speechwriter Nazrul Islam, commenced at 10 am with representatives from both domestic and foreign media outlets. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina read out a prepared statement. In her written statement, she stated that Bangladesh’s commitment to peace, sovereignty, and comprehensive security has been well-received globally due to the fruitful outcome of her recent diplomatic trip to Munich. She emphasized that it’s not the size of the country but the strength of its policies that ensures the political and socio-economic liberation of humanity. “I’m conveying this message at the global stage through this conference,” she added.
She then proceeded to answer questions from journalists. Regarding the government’s focus in the development of Smart Bangladesh, she highlighted the importance of ensuring sustainable economic and social progress. She stated, “Our goal is to ensure sustainable development. We have reached a stage where our primary objective is to ensure its sustainability.”
Addressing the issue of traffic congestion, she mentioned the measures taken to alleviate it, including the implementation of metro rail and expressways, which have significantly reduced traffic congestion in various areas. She emphasized the importance of installing traffic lights to further mitigate congestion.
Regarding the Rohingya crisis, she reiterated Bangladesh’s stance on peaceful resolution through dialogue. She condemned the inhumane acts occurring in Gaza and highlighted the need for diplomatic solutions to conflicts.
Responding to a journalist’s question, she expressed her satisfaction with the progress made since assuming office and thanked the media for their support. She also expressed gratitude for the eleven journalists elected as parliament members. Towards the end of the press conference, she humorously remarked, “Why haven’t I given [media representatives] any treats? So that journalists refrain from criticizing us.”
In conclusion, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina emphasized the importance of ensuring accountability and transparency in governance. She reiterated her commitment to representing all sectors of society in parliament and stressed the necessity for everyone to understand the functions and responsibilities of the parliament.
