Preparations are underway to reopen educational institutions on April 28, with Saturday also being open.

The Ministry of Education is preparing to reopen educational institutions from April 28, keeping the students’ class schedules unchanged. Classes will also continue on Saturdays from May 4 to mitigate losses.

According to sources from the Ministry of Education, the current temperature in the country is not at its highest. Also, the temperature is not the same in all regions, which is why students and parents in rural areas do not want schools to close. Only urban parents and students will have holidays.

Guidelines will be given to mitigate the damage to students and keep class schedules intact. Among these, activities like assembly will be suspended.

After the extended holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr and the Bengali New Year, educational institutions were supposed to reopen on April 21. However, due to sudden heatwaves, a one-week holiday was given to educational institutions.

Officials from the Ministry of Education said that the current temperature is not the highest in Bangladesh. Moreover, the current temperature is not the same in all regions of Bangladesh. Therefore, preparations have been made to reopen educational institutions from next Sunday (April 28) in all possible ways.

When educational institutions reopen, guidelines will be given to prevent any harm to students during the heat. Among these, students will be advised to avoid activities outside the classroom. Additionally, until further notice, assembly will remain suspended.

According to sources from the Ministry of Education, after the holidays end, classes will resume from the first Saturday after the reopening of educational institutions, starting from May 4.

Regarding whether the holidays of closed educational institutions will be extended due to the heatwave, Education Minister Shamsun Nahar has stated that it will be announced within the next Friday-Saturday.

Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Thursday, the Education Minister said, “We cannot talk about the temperature. The temperature can go up and down. We have two days off (Friday and Saturday), let’s see, and then we will decide.”

It is also believed from the Education Minister’s statement that preparations are being made to reopen educational institutions.

The United Parents Forum has demanded an extension of the holidays of educational institutions due to the severe heatwave. The President of the Forum, Bir Mukti Joddha Mo. Ziaul Kabir Dulal, has called for not extending the holidays after the current break. He said that educational programs could be conducted online to ensure the health safety of students and protect them from heat strokes.
