Prime Minister to Inaugurate 4 Projects Including Bangabazar Market

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate four development projects of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), including the construction of a 10-story wholesale market in Bangabazar in the capital.

On Saturday, May 25, at 10 AM, she will inaugurate these development works from Bangabazar.

According to Dhaka South City Corporation, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the following projects in the capital: the ‘Bangabazar City Wholesale Market,’ the eight-lane ‘Bir Muktijoddha Fazlul Haque Moni Road (Inner Circular Ring Road)’ from Postogola Bridge to Rayerbazar Sluicegate, the ‘Nazrul Sarobar’ in Dhanmondi Lake, and the modernization of the ‘Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardy Children’s Park’ in Shahbagh.

The event will also be attended by Local Government Minister Md. Tazul Islam and South City Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.

The 10-story Bangabazar City Wholesale Market, awaiting inauguration, will feature five regular staircases and six fire exit staircases with adequate fire safety measures. Each block of the market will have separate entrances and exits. The building will include electrical and mechanical rooms and four toilets on each floor of every block. Additionally, there will be parking facilities for 169 cars and 109 motorcycles on the ground floor.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the construction of the 5-kilometer long eight-lane Bir Muktijoddha Fazlul Haque Moni Road from Postogola Bridge to Rayerbazar Sluicegate.

This project, costing approximately BDT 974.58 crore, includes the construction of 10 kilometers of drains, 10 kilometers of pedestrian walkways (footpaths), three vehicle overpasses, three pedestrian overbridges, two kilometers of retaining walls, three mosques, six bus bays, and six passenger sheds. This will significantly reduce the pressure of buses, trucks, and freight vehicles within Dhaka city, thus alleviating traffic congestion.

Dhaka South City Corporation is constructing Nazrul Sarobar in Dhanmondi Lake at a cost of around BDT 51 crore from its own funds. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will also inaugurate this project on Saturday.

In memory of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, the open-air entertainment stage named ‘Nazrul Sarobar’ will feature a jetty, open-air auditorium, pedestrian walkways, public spaces, a restaurant, seating areas (benches), decorative lights, sufficient greenery, and a sound system. Additionally, plaques depicting memorable moments and literary works of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Kazi Nazrul Islam will be installed.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the modernization of the Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardy Children’s Park in Shahbagh (formerly known as Zia Children’s Park).

This modernization project, costing approximately BDT 604 crore, will transform the park established in 1979, which originally had 11 rides. The modernization will introduce 15 new types of modern rides, including Mega Disco, Super Air Race, Flying Carousel, Galleon, 12D Theater, Mine Coaster, Climbing Car, Super Happy Swing, and Water Mania.

In addition, the park will be equipped with toilets, plazas, restaurants, rest areas, wide walkways, seating arrangements, and other necessary facilities for visitors.
