Global Fund Wants Sheikh Hasina in ‘Coalition of Leaders

The Global Fund and the Stop TB Partnership have requested Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to join their ‘Coalition of Leaders’ and become a ‘Champion of the Global Fund.’

This request was made by Peter Sands, Executive Director of the Global Fund, and Lucica Ditiu, Executive Director of the Stop TB Partnership, during a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban on Wednesday (June 12).

Later, Prime Minister’s Press Secretary, Naimul Islam Khan, briefed the journalists.

Naimul Islam Khan mentioned that the ‘Coalition of Leaders’ includes prominent leaders like Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Highlighting that the Global Fund and the Stop TB Partnership primarily work on TB (tuberculosis), AIDS, and malaria in Bangladesh, the Press Secretary said they wish to strengthen and expand their relationship with Bangladesh.

Naimul Islam Khan noted that the Global Fund and the Stop TB Partnership want Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to utilize her connections and network with global leaders to aid in their fundraising efforts.

The Press Secretary also conveyed that the two Executive Directors were amazed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s extensive knowledge of tuberculosis, AIDS, and malaria.

Except for the hilly areas, the malaria situation in Bangladesh is under control, and the HIV (AIDS) situation is also under control, said Naimul Islam. He added that the two Executive Directors plan to highlight Bangladesh’s achievements under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership.

The Press Secretary further stated that they invited Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to attend various future events of the organizations, saying that her presence would bring Bangladesh’s success stories to the global stage.
