Congratulations to the new British Prime Minister Keir Starmer: Sheikh Hasina

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has congratulated Sir Keir Starmer, leader of the British Labour Party, on his party’s historic victory in the July 4th elections and assuming the role of Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. She wrote to the new Prime Minister, “This clear mandate reflects the British people’s trust in your leadership to take your country to new heights of progress and prosperity and to strengthen global peace.”

The Bangladesh High Commission in London has sent this letter to the newly elected Prime Minister of the UK. In this context, Sheikh Hasina recalled the enduring friendship between Bangladesh’s founding father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his party Awami League with the Labour Party and its iconic leaders Sir Harold Wilson, Thomas Williams Sick and Lord Peter Shore during the great liberation war of 1971, which has firmly established the Bangladesh-UK relationship on the solid foundation of democracy, secularism, inclusive and progressive values.

She added, “My government looks forward to working closely with the Labour Party government under your capable stewardship to further strengthen our longstanding political, economic, climate and technological partnerships for mutual benefit.”

She further stated, “Most importantly, together, we will harness the invaluable contributions of over 700,000 vibrant and enterprising Bangladeshi-British diaspora for the welfare of both our countries.”

She wished the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom a healthy, happy, and successful tenure, and expressed her desire for peace, progress, and prosperity for the friendly people of the United Kingdom during his important tenure.
