I will help make the dreams of students come true with Bangladesh: Dr. Yunus

Bangladesh’s new leader is clear—this was not his revolution, this was not his dream.

But the moment Muhammad Yunus picked up the call from the student on the other end of the phone last week, he knew he would do whatever needed to be done.

The students decided they needed 84-year-old Nobel laureate Professor Yunus to fill the void created by Sheikh Hasina’s sudden resignation as prime minister and lead the new interim government. And he accepted it immediately.

State Guest House Yamuna Dr. Yunus explained during a private briefing of selected journalists in his office, ‘I am doing it; Because that’s what the youth of the country wanted and I wanted to help them do it.’

Dr. Yunus said, ‘It is not my dream, it is their dream. I’m actually helping them make it come true.’

Professor Yunus was sworn in last Thursday after the government fell in a student-led movement. He is still trying to understand the magnitude of the task ahead of him.
