Joe Biden-Dr. Yunus meeting: US gives full support to interim government

US President Joe Biden expressed full support to the interim government of Bangladesh. Yesterday the chief adviser. He expressed this support during the meeting with Muhammad Yunus. The two leaders held a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Session in New York. The meeting starts at 11 am local time (9 pm Bangladesh time).

Yunus informed Joe Biden about the courageous role of the students against the oppression of the previous government and their important contribution in the reconstruction of Bangladesh. Professor Dr. Yunus said, ‘His government must be successful in rebuilding the country.’ 

At this time, the US president assured to stand by the Bangladesh government with any help. He said, “If the students can accept so much sacrifice for the country, then the US government should also give full cooperation.” 

As a gift in the meeting, Joe Biden handed over an art book titled ‘The Art of Triumph’. Yunus. Various pictures of murals painted by Bangladeshi students centered on the July-August coup have been included in this artbook.

Regarding the meeting with Joe Biden, Chief Adviser’s press secretary Shafiqul Alam told Bass, ‘Such a meeting of the US president with the head of government of Bangladesh on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session is rare. This meeting will take Bangladesh’s relations with the United States to new heights.

Professor Yunus also attended the reception hosted by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres yesterday. The event began at 8 am local time at the UN headquarters in New York. It was attended by world leaders attending the United Nations General Session. 

At the reception, Professor Yunus exchanged greetings with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Mauritius President Prithviraj Singh Rupan and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk among others.

Dr. Yunus also had a courtesy call on Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau yesterday. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed ways to strengthen the relationship between Bangladesh and Canada, expand civil liberties, institutional reforms and support the youth of Bangladesh. Professor Yunus also handed over ‘The Art of Triumph’ to the Prime Minister of Canada. Prime Minister Trudeau assured cooperation in Bangladesh’s institutional reforms and praised Professor Yunus’ leadership. 

How Sheikh Hasina’s regime has destroyed the institutions of the country, Dr. Yunus brought it up. He appreciated Canada’s friendship towards Bangladesh and Canadian government’s support to the interim government. He requested the Prime Minister of Canada to grant more visas to Bangladeshi students.
