In December, the country experienced a decline in inflation. The average inflation rate stood at 10.89%.
During the same period, food inflation was recorded at 12.92%.
This means that for products or services that cost 100 Taka in December 2023, an additional 10 Taka and 89 paisa was required in December 2024. However, for food items, the additional expense was 12 Taka and 92 paisa.
In comparison, inflation in the previous month, November, was 13.80%, meaning an additional 13 Taka and 80 paisa was needed for the same products or services.
This information was revealed in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) published by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) on Monday, January 6.
According to the index, inflation for non-food items decreased in December to 9.26%, down from 9.39% in the previous month.
In rural areas, inflation was 11.09% in December, compared to 11.53% in November.
On the other hand, in urban areas, inflation in December stood at 10.84%, down from 11.37% in November.
