Bangladesh is Committed to Ensuring Justice for the Pilkhana Massacre: Chief Adviser

The interim government is working to ensure justice for the Pilkhana massacre, said Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, emphasizing that Bangladesh, as a state, is committed to delivering justice for this brutality.

He made this statement on Tuesday (February 25) in a message marking National Martyred Soldiers’ Day.

The Chief Adviser stated that for the first time, National Martyred Soldiers’ Day is being observed. He remarked that since the brutal massacre of brave soldiers at Pilkhana in 2009, the nation has been subjected to confusion for many years. Bangladesh, as a state, is obligated to ensure justice for this atrocity, and the government is actively working toward that goal.

He further said that the current interim government has decided to observe this day every year in remembrance of all the martyrs who fell victim to the horrific killings at Pilkhana on this day in 2009. On this day, we remember with deep sorrow and pay humble tribute to the nation’s valiant martyred army officers. We pray for the eternal peace of their departed souls and extend our condolences and solidarity to their bereaved families.

Professor Yunus noted that the families of the martyrs have been waiting for justice for their loved ones even after so many years. He expressed hope that the nation and its people would stand in solidarity with the families of the martyrs and all those who have been oppressed.

He emphasized that from now on, this day will serve as a guiding force for our consciousness and emotions, reminding us of the untimely and tragic deaths of a group of brave individuals who set out to fight for the country. In remembering their sacrifices, we, as a nation, must remain determined to stay on the right path.

The Chief Adviser added that no more lives should be lost due to misrule, conspiracy, or arrogance. He expressed his hope that people can achieve their rightful positions in life with dignity and human rights through their skills and merit.

He further stated that Bangladesh should serve as an ideal model in the pursuit of a world free from hunger, poverty, and unemployment. On this day, in remembrance of the nation’s martyred soldiers, let us reaffirm our commitment to building a self-reliant and civilized Bangladesh. On behalf of the nation, I once again pay my deepest respects to all the martyrs on this National Martyred Soldiers’ Day.
