Reformation of Bandarban Hill District Council, Thanzama Lusai Appointed New Chairman

After a three-month vacancy, the interim government has appointed Professor Thanzama Lusai as the new Chairman of the Bandarban Hill District Council. Additionally, 14 representatives from various communities have been appointed as council members.

The appointment was announced on Thursday evening (November 7) via a notice signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Taslima Begum, issued under the directive of the President.

The notice stated that, under the authority granted by the Bandarban Hill District Council Act, 1989, the Bandarban Hill District Council (Amendment) Act, 1997 (Section 16A[4]), and the Bandarban Hill District Council (Amendment) Act, 2014 (Section 4[2]), the government has reconstituted the interim Bandarban Hill District Council. The appointed members include Rajumoy Tanchangya, Ma Ma Nu, Advocate Ubathwai Marma, Um Ching Marma, Khamlai Mro, Mong E Ching Chak, Dr. Sanai Pru Tripura, Lal Jarlam Bom, Nang Fra Khumi, Saiful Islam, Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Muhammad Abul Kalam, Advocate Madhabi Marma, and Khurshida Ishaq.

The public has expressed relief following the appointment of the new chairman and council members, ending the three-month standstill in the council.

Bandarban Hill District Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Muhammad Masum Billah, confirmed the development and expressed hope that the chairman and members would soon take up their responsibilities and work for the welfare of the people of Bandarban.
