Government decided to form three new Upazilas in the country

The National Implementation Committee on Administrative Restructuring (NICAR) has decided to form three more Upazilas in the country. The three new Upazilas are in Madaripur, Sunamganj and Cox’s Bazar districts. The total number of upazilas in the country is 495.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the National Implementation Committee on Administrative Restructuring at a virtual meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday.

Besides, the name of South Sunamganj Upazila has been changed to Shantiganj.

Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam said this in a press briefing given to Bangladesh Television in the cabinet meeting room of the secretariat after Nikar’s meeting.
