Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan said, permission has been sought from the bridge authorities to work on the main bridge. If they give us permission by December this year, it will be possible to run the train on the day the Padma Bridge is inaugurated at the time fixed by the government next year.

He said this while inspecting the progress of construction work of Buriganga Rail Bridge in Pangaon area of ​​Keraniganj Upazila for the purpose of inspecting Padma Bridge Rail Link Project.

Railway Minister further said, if it is not possible to run the train on the Padma Bridge on the inauguration day, the train will run from Dhaka to Bhanga in Faridpur district on December 16, 2022.

Presenting the overall progress of the entire project to the journalists present at Pangaon at the beginning of the visit, Railway Minister said, that the progress of Mawa to Bhanga section is 70% till August, progress from Dhaka to Mawa section is 40% and overall progress is 43%. Railway Minister inspected the route of the two-kilometer railway line at the Mawa end. He later went to the Jajira end of Shariatpur district, climbed the main bridge and inspected the part of the bridge where the railway line would be laid. From there, the Minister inaugurated the work of ballastless track in section 3 of the viaduct on the Jazira side.

Secretary of the Ministry of Railways Md. Selim Reza, Director General of Bangladesh Railway Dhirendra Nath Majumder and other concerned project directors and officials were present at the occasion.
