US calls on North Korea to suspend missile tests

On Sunday, the United States called on North Korea to suspend “counter-missile” tests and hoped Pyongyang would respond positively to Washington’s call for dialogue.

The call came after an emergency meeting of the Security Council on Tuesday over the launch of a ballistic missile (SLBM) from a North Korean submarine.

After meeting with the Japanese ambassador in Washington, US Special Envoy Sung Kim met with his South Korean counterpart, Qiu Duke.

He called Tuesday’s launch “provocative” and called on Pyongyang to suspend tests of “worrying and unfavorable” missiles.

“We hope North Korea will respond to our call,” Kim said.

The latest test of North Korea’s series of missile launches was carried out last Tuesday, and it is a long-range cruise missile.
