Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque yesterday said construction works of eight high-standard hospitals at eight divisions are almost complete to treat the people with Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).
“Out-of-pocket expenditure has increased significantly in the country as a large segment of people are suffering from non-communicable diseases,” he told a discussion titled “Dissemination on pathways to reduce house out-of-Pocket Expenditure” at a city hotel, an official release said.
Director General of Health Economics Division Dr Mohammad Shahdat Hossain, among others, addressed the discussion with Secretary of Health Services Division Lokman Hossain Main in the chair.
The health minister said people are bearing huge amount of money as they are suffering from non-communicable diseases such as kidney, heart, diabetes and liver. Many people are becoming poor due to non-communicable diseases, he added.
Maleque said after setting up these high-standard hospitals at the eight divisions, the people with NCDs will get treatment at lower cost from these hospitals.
Referring to the zero daily COVID-19 death reported in Bangladesh on November 20 (yesterday), he said “Bangladesh achieved a remarkable success as the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken prompt and multiple measures to tackle the pandemic successfully.
The minister said the government acted very seriously from the very outset of this global crisis to halt the outbreak of the lethal disease in Bangladesh.
“Bangladesh has been successful for collecting required quantity of vaccines. Success of Bangladesh to control coronavirus has been lauded globally,” he added.
