UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told participants at a virtual Davos Forum conference on Monday that everyone in the world must be vaccinated against Covid-19 to ensure an end to the Coronavirus epidemic. News from AFP.
The second year in a row, the conference is being held by political and corporate power leaders due to the Coronavirus epidemic. Meanwhile, there are no signs of eradication of the virus worldwide.
“Over the past two years, it has been proven that if we leave one person behind, we are leaving everyone behind,” he said.
“If we fail to vaccinate everyone, we are allowing new variants of the coronavirus to emerge that are spreading across borders and pose a serious threat to daily life and the country’s economic situation,” he added.
Guterres said the international community needs to tackle the epidemic while maintaining equality and neutrality.
He said the World Health Organization (WHO) had announced an action plan last fall to vaccinate 40 per cent of the world’s population by the end of 2021 and 70 per cent by mid-2022.
Guterres told the World Economic Forum: “We have not been able to reach this goal anywhere.
“The vaccination rate in developed countries is seven times higher than in African countries,” he said. It’s a shame. We need to maintain the vaccine balance. “
