Defending champions Bangladesh emerged group A champions in the second Bangabandhu Cup Int’l Kabaddi tournament when they earned a hard-fought A 40-38-point victory over Sri Lanka in their last group encounter held yesterday (Monday) at Shaheed Noor Hossain National Volleyball Stadium in the city.
Bangladesh led the first half by 18-17 points at the breather though Sri Lana secured two ‘lona’ in both halves of the match.
A nail-biting finish saw Bangladesh earning two points in the last minute to seal the glorious victory on the day.
Bangladesh, who earlier confirmed their spot of semifinal, topped the table with full six points. Sri Lanka with four points also confirmed their spot of last four. However, their semifinal rivals will be decided tomorrow (Tuesday) after the completion of group B matches.
Sri Lanka vice-captain Aslam Saja was named the player of the match for his impressive performance in the match.
Bangladesh enjoys a rest day tomorrow (Tuesday) with the semifinals billed to take place on Wednesday.
