Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said that the missing leaders and workers of Awami League during the rule of BNP (2001-06) are being listed. He said, during the tenure of BNP, the listing of missing persons has become a mass demand. The Home Minister said these things in response to a question after the meeting on the upcoming Christmas celebration and thirty-first night at the Secretariat and related issues. During the rule of Awami League in the last decade and a half, BNP has been complaining that many of its leaders and workers have gone missing. Today, while announcing the ‘State Structure Repair Outline’ at a hotel in the capital, the BNP has reiterated that they will prosecute every incident of disappearance, murder, and torture. When the attention of the Home Minister was drawn to the BNP’s warning, he said, “We are also taking action on the issue of disappearances.” Claiming that thousands of people have gone missing during the BNP’s tenure, he said, those who have been killed extrajudicially are being listed. From 2001 to 2006 many Awami League leaders and activists were killed. On the occasion of the Christian New Year celebration, Asaduzzaman Khan said regarding the security of the thirty-first night, fireworks or crackers cannot be lit. No event can be held on the road or create obstructions. Of course, the event can be held with the permission of the police; But not by creating any obstacles. Bars (panshalas) will be closed from 6 pm on December 31 to 6 pm the following day. The Home Minister also said that extensive security arrangements have been made for Christmas, the biggest festival of Christians on December 25 before the Thirty First. He said that the security system has been strengthened on the occasion of Christmas in 5 thousand 642 churches across the country. He said that fireworks and crackers cannot be lit on Christmas. Asaduzzaman Khan also said, on the occasion of Christmas, there will be an archway, and CC cameras at the entrance of the churches. Special security measures have been taken in the diplomatic quarter.
