Highlighting the need for an educated nation to build a poverty-free country, the head of government said, ‘After independence, the father of the nation used to say one thing; Education is the key tool for poverty alleviation. A nation cannot be freed from poverty without education. Education is the backbone of the nation. The father of the nation said that whatever money is spent on education is an investment. It is not possible to build a poverty-free Bangladesh without an educated nation. That is why today we are taking all our initiatives in this field of education. ‘
Emphasizing on acquiring skills in keeping with the world, the Awami League president said, ‘The world is changing, we have to keep pace with this changing world. Today is the age of technology, age of science, age of research. ‘
Highlighting various creative programs of the government to develop the talent of students, the Prime Minister said, ‘I think that if we give the opportunity to develop the talent of our children. Then no one can ever overtake this country. We will move on. At this time, he also mentioned the various steps taken by the government to make education multifaceted along with the expansion of science and technical education.
Calling for emphasis on research in health, science and technology, he said, “Our research is lagging behind in one area, that is in the field of health.” I emphasize on research in health sciences. We have made considerable progress in agriculture. But I could not do so much in the field of science. ‘
Highlighting the progress and success in various fields in the past years, the Prime Minister said, ‘Since 2009, the democratic process has continued continuously in Bangladesh. This is the first time, this is the first time in the history of 50 years. And because of that, today our country is moving forward on the path of development. ‘
Among others, the Minister of Education spoke at the event. Dipu Moni, Education Deputy Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Naufel. Earlier, Smriti Karmakar, Managing Director of Prime Minister’s Education Assistance Trust gave the welcome address. He said that about 53 lakh 60 thousand students from secondary to graduation (pass) and equivalent level are getting a total of Tk 1200 crore as stipend and tuition fee. These stipends and tuition fees will be disbursed through mobile finance services.
In the event, 15 meritorious students of 6th to 12th class received the award in Bangabandhu Creative Talent Search-2023. 22 students have received the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Scholarship Award-2022 at the postgraduate level. 5 students who received awards at various stages expressed their feelings in the ceremony.
