Bangladesh-United States will work together for fair elections

US State Department spokesperson Vedanta Patel said that political violence has no place in a democracy. I emphasized the importance of the United States and Bangladesh working together to achieve the goal of free and fair elections.

He said this at the regular briefing of the US State Department on Wednesday (July 26).

Vedant Patel was asked to know the reaction of the United States on calling the ambassadors of 13 countries in connection with the attack on Ashraful Alam alias Hero Alam, the independent candidate of Dhaka-17 constituency.

“We want to make it clear that political violence has no place in a democracy,” Vedant Patel said without directly answering a question about summoning ambassadors. The United States does not favor any political party. We support Bangladesh’s goal of holding a free, fair and peaceful election.

He said, this is an important aspect of our bilateral relations. We believe that free and fair elections are Bangladesh’s priority. Because it has been said by the government including the Prime Minister of Bangladesh that this is also their goal.

It should be noted that the by-election of Dhaka-17 seat was held on July 17. At the last minute of the election, miscreants attacked independent candidate Ashraful Alam alias Hero Alam. Dhaka’s 13 missions issued a joint statement expressing concern and demanding justice for those involved.
