Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of former president of Mymensingh district Awami League and former minister of religion Veer Mukti Jodha Principal Matiur Rahman.
In the condolence message, the Prime Minister said, Matiur Rahman was a dedicated leader of Bangladesh Awami League.
In the face of hundreds of temptations and repeated imprisonments, he remained steadfast to the ideals of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the politics of the Awami League and fulfilled his organizational duties.
Sheikh Hasina said that this leader, who led the Mymensingh district Awami League for more than three decades, served as a trainer and successful organizer of the freedom fighters during the great liberation war. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2022 for his outstanding contribution in the Liberation War.
He said, the death of principal Matiur Rahman caused an irreparable loss to the party and I lost a faithful comrade.
The Prime Minister sought forgiveness for the departed soul of Principal Matiur Rahman and expressed his deepest condolences to his bereaved family members.
Principal Matiur Rahman passed away on Sunday (August 27) around 11:15 pm (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilahi Rajiun).
He was undergoing treatment at Nexus Hospital in Mymensingh. He was 81 years old at the time of his death.
